Twenty

Level 20 has just rolled around and blinds will now be 4000-8000-1000

One of the uglier ways to Bust

Colombel Ludovic hits the rails when he gets one of the grossest ways to exit any event the dreaded counterfeit

Colombel holds 66 against his opponents Ac10s

Flop KcQd7d

Turn Qc

But the river falls the most gruesome of cards 7h to double pair the board and the Ace high is enough to claim the pot and a victim.

Break Time

Once more players take a 15 minute break.

Time to stretch the legs.

Rich get Richer...

Patrick Kaltrud keeps on adding the already monster stack that he had and is the first person to bust the 1 million chip mark, current stack of 1.3million

Raise'em Up

We now roll into a new blind level of 3000-6000-800

Double It Up

Patrick Pons has gotten a double through at the hands of Daragh Davey I arrive at their table to see Patrick and his 85k stack is at risk with KcQh vs the 7h7s of Davey.

King high flop and its all looking gravy for Pons JhKs3

Turn 3h

River 9h

New Chip Leader

We have a new chip leader in the shape of Patrick Kaltrud he is sitting on the feature table that is being live streamed at the moment.

Current stack 810k

Dropping Fast

Within the first few minutes of the bubble bursting there was a flurry of exits and we are currently down to 56 players at the moment.

43rd-54th €1155

55th-66th €1060

Pop!

The bubble lasted all of 1 hand and the bubble boy will receive free entry into next years event. There was a big cheer and roar from the other players in the field when they heard that they were now all in the money.

All players are now guaranteed a minimum of €1060

Bubbleboy today was Marvin Brailly who was really short on 18k and was called by Julien Calamote who had him well covered.

Marvin - KcQc

Julien - Ac6h

Flop 9c4d8d

Turn Jd gives Marvin a couple extra outs.

River 9d to pair the board and no good for Marvin.

He seemed to take it pretty well and managed to have a smile on his face.

Unlucky for Marvin but congratulations to all of the rest of the players in the field who have cashed, now it's time to think about building a stack to make the charge for the final table.

We are off

Blinds now 2500-5000-500 running ante.

Bubble Approaching

We just broke for the dinner break with 67 players remaining with 66 getting some kind of monetary reward for all their efforts.

Gonna make for some tense times when we restart play.

We will be going hand for hand.

Dinner Break

Play has stopped for 1 hour while the remaining players in the main event go on their dinner break.

(for some reason this post didn't post correctly will be back sooner than advertised)

No Good for Trueick

We lose last years winner Alan Trueick so we wont have a back to back winner, we will be crowing a new champion this weekend.

Caught him with him for a few minutes as he was watching the football on the tv in the hotel lobby, and just says that he ran AK into KK

Looks like it just wasn't to be for his this time round as he never looked to get into a proper groove to push on forward.

Much Needed

Laurent Pumiglia gets himself a much needed double from Adam Fallon, Adam has opened the action with a raise and Laurent 3bets shoves his stack of 41k or so and Adam says "I think I have to call" and does so.

Laurent - AhKs

Adam - 7h7s

Kh2h10c sees Laurent take the lead and he even cheers when he flops a King.

Turn - 3s

River - 6h

Up Up and Away

The blinds are being raised once more as we move into Level 17 2000-4000-500 running ante.

Tournament Update

chipping up
We are currently left with 84 players in the main event.

We have just lost Stephen Sammon was just talking to him briefly and he said he wasn't getting much going and then I seen him looking despondent as he was walking away from the tournament area but I have no official hand details.

For awhile it seemed to be a lot of the Irish players were the ones breaking the 300/400k mark and as I wonder around the room I start to see some more of the French players are now making a run at becoming chip leaders.

El Capitan

Current chip leader at the moment is Dublin player Daragh Davey he has recently just busted the 400k mark.

Onwards and upwards it seems for him.

It was Adam Fallon at one stage but he said it got a little adventurous.

Blinds Go Up

Play now resumes clock reads 108 players.

Blinds now 1600-3200-400

Break and a Race

Players will leave the tournament area for a 20 minute break and the 25 chips will be raced out of play.

Running Theme

Seems to be a few of the players in the field this weekend using the little Hennessy bottles as card protectors probably that in the event of a beat they can neck a little to steady the nerves.

Better late than Never

Jason Tompkins wasn't around at the start of play this afternoon and certainly didn't have the kind of stack that you could be blinded away with, he lost a little over 10k from blinds and antes but since arriving has been battling away trying to get something going and seems to have finally found his feet.

Playing a stack of about 170k now after getting his table mate to get them in bad when Jason holds J10 on a JxJx6x board.

After coming off a recent UKIPT 5th place finish and a string of other results confidence certainly isn't lacking in him.

Busto

D4 Events player Anthony Rodrigues has exited the event a few minutes back when he runs Q3 into AJ he manages to flop top pair but gets outdrawn on the turn when an Ace falls.

Have a suspicion that he will be in the PLO cash games in a few minutes.

Level 15

Blinds now increase to 1200-2400-300 with 114 players remaining.

Got there and then got There

Robbie McCormack and Christophe Gillard are involved in a hand while I am walking through the tournament area I see a the two lads are during their cards on their back with Robbie having his opponent covered.

Robbie - Qd10c

Christophe - KsJc

On a flop of 10s9s6s we see Christophe all in for his tournament life holding a King high flush draw and a gutter ball straight draw with Robbie just holding top pair.

Qs hits the turn and Christophe slams the table with elation after getting there with his draw but only a few moments later that feeling will swiftly turn to dispare when Robbie hits the Qc to house up on the river and add a 50k + pot to his stack.

Tournament Update

We are a little over midway through Level 14 and we have around 138 players remaining in the field with an average stack at the moment of 95,072

New Chip Leader

Gerard Harraghy is just chipping up and chipping up and has overtaken one time chip leader Alice Christina.

Gerard is now sitting on a very comfortable stack of about 375k he got a few of those chips when he check raised the turn with a gutter ball and got there on the river and managed to get a 48k bet paid off on the river from Anthony Rodrigues.

Looks like the top 3 chipstacks in the room are from Ireland with Adam Fallon paying about 310k and Daragh Davey playing 300k

Play Restarts at Level 14

Shuffle up and deal, blinds now 1000-2000-250 running ante.

Break Time

Players will leave the room for 15 minutes.

Eliminated

Little bit of a cooler situation when Daragh Davey and Paul Lucey clash at the table, Daragh has AA vs the AK of Paul, Paul was pretty short at this stage so the money was always going in preflop.

Daragh jumps up to the 250k mark.

AK Full House

Bops
Ireland based player Ian "Bops" Ronan managed to secure himself a little double up when he is all in pre flop with AcKs vs 8x8x

Flipping time and Bops flips good when the flop comes down 4hKc2c takes an even better lead when he hits the Kd on the turn and just to seal the deal with an As on the river.

Currently in the 60k chip range.

Defending Champion eliminates a player.

In a blind on blind battle between Alan Trueick and Yves Pouessel, Alan applies the pressure when he shoves all in from the SB and has the BB covered.

Yves makes the call in these kind of situations nearly any Ace is gonna be ahead of a random hand.

Alan - Qs10c

Yves - Ad7c

Going to the flop the dealer spreads out QdAc4d and Yves looks to be in a commanding lead when a 5h peels off on the turn and only has to fade the river but a cruel 10s hits to send him to the rail.

Alan adds a little over 30k to his stack.

Bust out from the Live Stream

Sean Prendiville has busted the event when he opens the action with a raise with 910 suited and gets called in two spots there is a raise from the BB and Sean 4bets more than half his stack and is commited to call when the 3bettor shoves and turns up with AQ

Queen on the flop and Sean is in bad shape but picks up a King on the turn to give him the gutter ball but wiffs his outs.

He is currently doing some commentary on the live stream with Wesley Nobels tune in and listen to Sean talk through a few hands.

Level Up

We now enter the 800-1600-200 running ante stage with 192 players remaining.

"Player Down"

Just heard a dealer calling out for the first bust out of today.

With some shortstacks coming back today it's time to get busy for those.

Go!

Play starts for today blinds 600-1200-150 running ante.

Welcome to Day 2 of the D4 Events Winamax Short Handed Event

Afternoon folks play will be starting very shortly as we kick off Day 2, Alice Christina our Day 1a chip leader leads the field at start of play today with 238,650

We have 211 players for the start of play today.

Hope you's enjoy todays coverage.

That's a Wrap

And it's all over for tonight Day 1b has been shrunk down from the 358 players that started today to 126 and they will join up with the 92 from yesterday at 1pm tomorrow for Day 2 of the D4 Events Winamax Short Handed Event.

Chiron Guillaume looks to be our Day 1b chip leader with a stack of 224,250

It's been a pretty long aul slog today for the players but it will be worth it in the end when they bank a cheque worth €70,000

Well that's it from us tonight hope you's have enjoyed the blog and live stream coverage, don't forget to tune in tomorrow from 1pm for all the action of Day 2 should be a good day's action.

4 More Hands

Play will finish for the night after 4 more hands are played on all tables.

Floating

Phil Baker comes along for the ride when he limps the button and holds KcQs.

He is floating the flop of 10c4d2s hoping to take the pot away from his table mate on the turn but he actually hits a real hand when the Ks pops off its checked to Phil who bets ok 2k and gets a quick call.

River drops 7c and once again the betting action is up to Mr Baker and he bets 4k hoping to get a crying call from a worse hand which he does.

Now increase his stack to 70k

Timely double Up

Catherine Sarragossi manages to get herself a timely double when she gets her chips in the middle as a huge favourite.

She holds AsQd vs the QcJc but has to fade a few outs on the flop as it comes down 9h8cKs more fading to be done on the turn as her opponent picks up a flush draw also when the 5c falls but has some relief when it falls 3s

Champ Moving in the right Direction

Alan Trueick the defending champ seems to have got a little something going now as his stack has jumped to 40k+

Sean Gonna Sean

"relaying the hands to Tom Kitt"
Sean keeps rebuilding his stack any time I have seen him since, back up to around 60k now.

In a blind on blind battle Sean defends with the mighty K2 off, a flop of Kx4x5x and Sean raised the SB bets of 2k to 5k

Turn goes check check when it comes 6 and there is an 11k river bet facing Sean when a Jack hits, after some thinking he makes the call which is good and is shown 33.

Last Level of the Night

We roll into the last level of the night and blinds are 500-1000-125 128 players remain.

Little Bit Back

Sean Prendiville has now managed to jump back up to 40k when he gets there on the river with Q9 vs 1010 on J10xxK board.

Not Good

Sean Prendivlle has just taken a couple of hits to his stack and has gone from 110k down to 18k

He ran into Queens 3 times once with 85 once with AK and now just lost JJ to QQ to send him dwindling down.

Just a Sip

Roy Holband enjoying sipping on a little Hennessy

Money,Money,Money

Too much fun

Sean Prendiville seems to be having himself an absolute blast of a time at his new table its just himself and and the rest are French, trying to get in on the spirit of the table he is doing his best to announces his bets in French.

Having a blast of a time and in the process ends up knocking over his chip stack.

Defending Champion

puff of the cheeks shows the
frustration of a slow day
It's been a tough one today so far for last years winner Alan Trueick I catch him with him a few minutes back to see him being involved in some pre flop raising.

Raise in the CO to 3800 and Alan 3bets to 6800 which gets flat called.

Flop of Ah6sJh is met with a quick all in by the other player, Alan looks perplexed by this and hits the tank and after a good think about it decided its best to save his remaining chips for another day.

Currently sitting on a stack of about 12k

Level Up

We now enter Level 10 blinds now running at 400-800-100

Break Time

We end level 9 in a few moments and players will be going on a 15 minute break.

Eliminated

No sooner had I posted up I see Giovanny Saelens strolling through the tournament field no chip tray in hand so the bad news was he had been eliminated.

Friday, September 23, 2011

Poker Face

Giovanny Saelens doesn't want to give anything away while he is involved in the middle of a hand and tries to stay as still as possible so not to give away any tells.

Local Player

Surprising today we actually didn't seem to have a lot of Irish players in the field today which is a bit of a shame, we had a lot more in the field yesterday but they seemed to have bust in quick succession of each other.

But we have Dublin lad Albert Kenny in fighting the good fight looking to have a better performance than last year although he cashed I am sure he would of loved to have pushed on up a further few places to final table the event.

Chatting with him for a few minutes said he was hovering around the 20k mark and then it all seemed to come together for him when he made a good call on a possible flush turn while holding QQ when he is opponent barrels into him with just 1 pair and eliminated the player in the process.

Big Smile

Naouale Cobigo cracks me a big smile, sometimes days like these can be grueling so to be able to breakout a smile and seem to enjoy your time is always a good thing.

Now those are glasses!

New Level

We move into Level 9 with an increase in the blinds of 300-600-100

210 players remain with an average stack of 34,190

On the uptick

Just catch a hand involving Dermot Blain as I am strolling through the tournament area there is an UTG open to 1200 and Dermot is next to act and he makes it 3200 to go now.

Folded back around to the original raiser and he announces "all in" Dermot has a quick look and gets the count, 15350 total and he cuts that out of his stack to make the call.

Dermot - 10h10s

Opponent - 8d8c

Blain is in fantastic shape to take down this pot and he has a lock on the pot when he turns a 10 on a board that read 4s7s4d10d7d

As I am walking back down the tournament area I see he is scooping in another pot and is in the 50/60k region.

Build the Pot

Get to the action on the table of Phil Baker and Franck Salim El Mamouni

I see a board that reads 10h10s9s Phil bets out 1500 and gets called.

Turn Kh Phil leads again at the pot for 4k and once again gets called.

River 7d and Phil leads for a 5k bet that sends Franck Salim into the tank for a minute or so and eventually makes the call to be shown QcJs for the straight by Baker.

Level 8

And away we go new blind level of 250-500-75

Donkey

"hee-haw"
This is the card protector of Tomas Geleziunas seems to be a hit around the room today been posted on the various blog forums around Europe.

2 Time Entrant

Wesley Nobels busted Day 1a early on yesterday in that day's action and unfortunately hasn't fair too much better again today after busting again once more.

Wesley 4bet shoves JJ and gets a call after a tank call from a player holding QQ on the live stream table.

Altogether Now

We are now finished the split dinner breaks and the whole field will once again take to the room to continue play.

Level 7 now with blinds now 200-400-50 with 240 players remaining.

Not this time for Baeten

D4 Events regular Olivier Baeten hits the rails today after getting short he was shoving a few hands trying to build himself a stack again.

There is an open to 700 and Olivier moves all in for 7500 with KQ and after a tank call finds he is in very good shape against KsJs but it wasn't to be for him when he gets rivered for a flush.

3 Outs

Phil Baker just lost a decent size pot of around 30k or so when he turns the nut straight and speechplays the guy at his table to call it off with the Aces.

The board reads Kd10d4dJs and Phil gets all the loot in the middle holding Q9 against he AA (no diamond)

River Qh and Phil gets rivered for a higher straight.

Blinds Blinds Blinds

Blinds now running 150-300-25

Sean P

"The Goat"
Just before the break Sean Prendiville was rocking with chips and was up to 78k from the starting today of 20k

Sean has been missing the last while from the tournament poker scene in Ireland after been in Vegas for a little while he took some time off to do a little traveling. Good to see him back as he is always a very good player to follow at these event's as he is a phenomenal player.

Coming and going.

We now have the 2nd half of the field going on their 1 hour dinner break.

Sick Hand

Got relayed this action by Tom Kitt as it was the guy who knocked him out so he was paying close attention to it.

There is 3 way action on a flop of 10x9x9x

It goes bet 2k raise 5k reraise to 10k and the other two just flat.

Turn is the 3d (brings diamond draw) Henry Demaison (eliminated Tom Kitt) open bombs the turn for 30/40k and gets called in spot, after a huge dwell he gets called in a 2nd spot the other two callers are at risk for their tournament lifes.

Henry - 7d8d

Both the other players hold A9 for trips.

Henry binks the miracle 6 on the river for the double elimination and increase his stack into the 90k range.

Elimination

We lose Christophe Dubois when he calls the reraise all in on the river of Damien Brante when Damien holds a full house of Q10 against the K8 flush of Christophe.

I catch up with the action at the river on a board that reads KsAh10sQh10h

10-7 Split

We have started the first half of the split dinner break with half of the field gone.

Elimination just before the break

We lose recent UKIPT Dublin 6th place finisher Noel O Brien at he hands of Arnauld Neuville.

Noel holds Kd10h against the KcKh of Arnauld when all of Noels chips (15k) are in the middle on a flop of 10s8d5c

Turn is Qh which is no good for him and the river falls an inconsequential 6h and we lose Noel.

Back to business

We now restart and move into Level 5 blinds now 100-200-25

20 Minute Break

Will be back with you's shortly.

Don't you just love it...

"just the 2nd nuts"
When you flop absolute gin, that what Adrian O Donoghue done when he finds himself in a 3 way pot with Ad2d and a flop of 5c4c3h

With 1100 already in the middle Adrien bets 600 and gets one straggler, onto the turn we see a 10c which is pretty ugly and kills some of his action and it goes check check.

River is Qs and its checked to Adrien who bets 1100 and gets a call from Sebastien  Lemaire.

Phil "Westlife" Baker

Would just like to take a quick opportunity to wish Phil and Lorraine Baker a very happy 1st birthday to their little fella Ryan.

He even uses the little lads shoe as a card protector.

Tom Kitt hits the rails

After getting off to a pretty decent start thinks just started to go south for Tom and he eventually found himself in one of those tricky spots where you think you might be dominated but have to call it off sometimes.

Tom raises the action on the button but finds himself facing a shove which effectively will put him at risk and makes the call.

Tom - AcQc

Opponent - AhKs

The flop brings Tom very little in the way of any outs when it comes Jd5d6s turn falls 8s and Tom is needed to hit the river pretty hard but it comes 4d and even manages to get a little round of applause from his table mates.

Blinds Up

We now move into Level 4 blinds now increase to 100-200

Clock currently reads 360 players with 354 remaining with registration open for one more level.

Flopped it!

"just not meant to be"
Fergal Nealon on his re-entry has busted once more in a cooler of a hand, him and the villain both flopped flushes on a King high board with Fergal holding the Queen high flush for the 2nd nuts against the Ace high flush for the nuts.

Both trying to lure each other in, the villain bets the river and that's when the last of Fergal's chips go into the middle and finds himself facing a quick call.

Checking out his opponents chips

We are gonna give Belgian player Olivier Baeten the benefit of the doubt and assume he is studying his opponents tactics.

Back to the grind

We now enter Level 3 blinds 75-150 after the short break.

First player to re-enter

Irish Pro Dara O Kearney had himself a horrid time in yesterday's field and he is back today to prove a point.

Has anyone seen my glasses?

Nice.

Break Break Break

After every two levels players will break for 15 minutes, we have the first break of the day coming up.

Defending Champion

We have last years winner in the field today, had a quick chat with Alan Trueick and he seems to be in good spirits and is looking forward to trying to defend his crown.

And They're Off...

Shuffle Up and Deal

Just getting setup and the moment, hope you all enjoy today's coverage.

The Day 1a chip leader Alice Christina finished up on a more than respectable 238,650 can somebody for today top that number?

We will be back tomorrow from 1pm to bring you coverage from all of the Day 1b action, looking forward to seeing how many people will actually end up re-entering the tournament as this is my first time covering an event like this. Have a feeling tomorrow is going to be busy busy busy, so lets of action.

Hope you all have enjoyed the coverage we were able to bring you today be it either in the blog or the footage from the live stream.

Will have remaining players and chip counts in tomorrows coverage. Good night folks don't forget to tune in tomorrow.

Top Chip Leaders

We have Alice Christina and Gerard Harraghy looking to the sitting on top of todays leaderboard both busting the 200k mark very easily.

Alice Christina 238k

Gerard Harraghy 224k

3 more hands

There will be 3 more hands played and then we will be finished for the night.

And gone...

No sooner had I just finished that update below about Nick Newport and he had exited the event a few minutes later, after getting himself he drops down to 15k and finds himself all in pre with 9c6c and the new player who has just arrived at the table wakes up with QQ and has no problem calling the all in.

A Queen falls on the flop giving his opponent top set and a virtual lock on the hand.

Apply the pressure and get the fold

Nick Newport ramps up the pressure on his opponent, Nick opens the action pre flop with Kc7c with a bet of 1700 and finds himself facing a 3bet out of the SB.

Nick makes the call and we go to a flop of Kx6x2x two spades the 3bettor leads at the flop for 6.5k and Nick doesn't waste too much time in sliding his chips into the pot, the pressure of the all in was enough to force a fold from the 3bettor.

He gets there!

Final Board
Cedric Gibellini manages to get there on the river drawing to the nut flush, Cedric holds AhQc vs the Ac3c on the board of Qs5h2h4h when all the money goes in the middle and they managed to fold out Damir Catic who has turned two pair.

The sweet Kh falls on the river to give the Cedric the win and a double up to over 50k
